iPad Contest and the Lessons Learned

It amazing to think that I have spent so much time on my recent quest to win an iPad. Especially seeing that the contest was completely random. It does not really matter how many entries one had, it all came down to luck and probably a little mathematical algorithm. Too complicated for my pea sized brain. We all use the internet daily, and probably give little thought to how it truly all connects. It just does, it’s magic.

Now why the iPad? Because of it’s unlimited uses; well, at least in my head. The reality is that I have no idea why I took to the contest with the passion and enthusiasm that I did…I only know that it was a powerful force inside of me and I had to follow my desires. Funny, I’ve never done that before.

Why am I writing about my involvement with a contest that has ended, you may ask?

Well, it was not the contest that inspired me to write this article, but the results of what came from the event. In looking back, I realize that I was completely focused on a goal and taking daily action. Did I win an iPad? I will get to that later. Taking consistent daily action has gave me the opportunity to go from #34 to #5 in the contest rankings. No, this is not something that is earth shattering, it was just me recognizing that I had tracked my efforts and saw the results of my efforts on the contest website.

Now that is the crazy part, but what it also involved was a dedication to consistent learning. During the contest, I saw another contestant zoom past me and jump more than 600 entries ahead of me. My thought was how in the heck did he do that? I didn’t know, but I knew I wanted to find out. Will I share his method? Of course, I will…and I will do it for free. Why would I do this for free you might ask? Because knowledge is only powerful when put into action and so many obtain knowledge and then never use it; I know this to be a personal truth.

You see, the last six months have been a meandering journey for me. I took a much needed sabbatical (that is leave of absence) from my career as a jet pilot to pursue other streams of income. No joke. As glamorous as it might sound, being a pilot is a tough lifestyle. The smaller the plane, the smaller the paycheck. But that is not the purpose of this article.

In my initial exploration of being an online marketer; even though I did not really know what the term meant, I discovered Frank Kern and thought he was just too fun. While I liked his cool videos, I felt that I was too much of a newbie to understand it all. Soon after, I found another less expensive system that a friend was already using, so I took him up on his offer to try it out. Happy with my decision and the simplicity of the system with all the support available, I was up and running. Gaining knowledge on a daily basis.

Over the last six months, I have met so many people using the same system. The training I received is excellent and geared towards the beginner, and once you’ve mastered beginner marketing; online courses and webinars are available to take you through mastery. Online domination, then take it offline! Does this sound familiar? Perhaps you’ve heard it from a friend, or two. I am excited about the possibilities, not writing about the results of my efforts over the last six months. No big paycheck, no marketing guru status, no facebook business. Just me and my mac writing this article at 5 a.m.

As for the contest, I was not the winner. I realized that I was always focused on the contest and not the prize. My journey of taking action daily was the true value. In looking back, I was taking massive action and seeing the results on the contest website. Every time I saw my numbers climb, I would get more excited and that spurred me on to enthusiastically continue my quest. Again, and again, and again.

In life we always hear about the vicious circle that leads to failure. What I learned is that you can also have a Circle of Success. Massive efforts that lead to immediate results that continue to ignite the fuel that runs through the engine of an Internet newbie’s heart, or that of an Olympic athlete. Success does not come with one try. It is a journey of many steps, so you cannot stop until you reach your goal.

The keys to the Circle of Success are: 1. Focus on what you want and are seeking. 2. Have a plan on how to get there. 3. Take action daily. 4. Review your results. 5. Adjust your course, as needed. 6. Repeat daily.

Simple Steps to Success. Knowledge is power, but only when one takes action. It’s time to break the lock and free the knowledge stored inside of you. Take action today. If you feel inspired, go to my blog for more information on how you can make positive changes in your business and life.

iPad Contest Winner…not yet.

It amazing to think that I am spending so much time on my quest to win an iPad.  Especially seeing that the contest is completely random.  It does not really matter how many entries one has, it all comes down to luck and probably a little mathematical algorithm.  Too complicated for my pea sized brain.  We all use the internet daily, and probably give little thought to how it truly all connects.  It just does, it’s magic.

Well, to update you on my quest, I really just want to say…go head, make my day, enter the contest via this link http://www.mcintoshmarketing.com/i/pamperedpilot.  Okay, that is not why I am writing this article, it actually is something that is much bigger!

What I have realized is that I am completely focused on a goal and taking daily action.  Will I win an iPad?  Who knows, but what I have learned is that consistent daily action has given me the opportunity to go from #34 just less than a week ago to #5 at the time I am writing this article.  No, this is not something that is earth shattering, it is just me recognizing that I am tracking my efforts and seeing the results of my efforts on Bill McIntosh’s Marketing website.

Now that is the crazy part, but what it also involves is a dedication to consistent learning.  I have seen another contestant zoom past me and is now more than 600 entries ahead of me.  My question, is how in the heck did he do that?  I don’t know, but I know I will find out.  Will I share his method?  Of course, I will…and I will do it for FREE.  Why would I do this for free you might ask?  Because knowledge is only powerful when put into action.  I know this for a fact.

Soon after, I found  My Lead System Pro a.k.a. MLSP.  A friend was already using the system and I thought I would take him up on his offer to try it out.  I did and was happy with my decision.  It was simple enough for me to understand and I liked the weekly calls and all of the support available.

Over the last six months, I have met so many people from this super cool system.  It is easy as baking a pie.  Okay, so many of you don’t cook, let alone bake?  Well that is the reason I am sharing this article with you.  I am here to help.  In fact, everyone you meet with MLSP is here to help.  The training received is top shelf and geared towards the beginner, and once you’ve mastered beginner marketing; online courses and webinars are available to take you through mastery.  And once you have seen what is available online, it is only a matter of time before you begin to explore the offline possibilities!

This past weekend, I attended an event, the More Heart Than Talent One-Day Seminar hosted by
Jeffery Combs, President of Golden Mastermind Seminars, Inc. is an internationally recognized speaker, trainer and author, specializing in prospecting, leadership, personal breakthroughs, prosperity consciousness, spiritual enlightenment, mindset training, and effective marketing. Other speakers included: Casey Eberhart and Cedrick Harris.  Casey, Top Marketer and Connection Specialist. He’s made it his mission over the years to collect and connect: he collects relationships and connects people so they can do business together. He’s focused on your success.  Cedrick, a known authority on the topics of Direct Sales, Prospecting, and Internet Marketing. Every week Cedrick hosts a live prospecting call where 100’s of people join to listen to his dynamic prospecting style.  If you have not met Cedrick online, do so now.

Sound impressive?  It was and what I learned was worth much more than the small amount I paid to attend the event.  Online and offline, it is imperative that we continue to connect!  Now what does all of this have to do with winning an iPad?  It doesn’t.  It is just the results of taking action consistently, and daily.  What about you?  What have you done in the last two weeks?

Patience is a Virtue when working Online!

It is amazing that as the world gets faster with communication running at lightening speeds, daily, our tendency is to want things to happen just as fast.  My friend, that is unrealistic.

As the entertainment industry has learned over the years, a script does not mean Oscar.  In the world of facebook and blogging, one post does not mean thousands of followers, nor does one tweet mean millions in the bank.  In fact, it can mean the opposite.  The lesson to be learned is that, regardless of how we communicate, our results are based on the quality of the relationships that we have with our readers, viewers, and followers.  No one wants to feel like they do not matter.  Everyone has a voice, and if you have not noticed it, they are using their voice online, daily.

Unfortunately, if one does not have patience, there is the chance that they will send one to many requests to join a group, or become a fan notices.  It is imperative in today’s world that patience be part of our daily routines.  We must have patience with others when they post silly items on our facebook walls, or misspell common words when commenting on our blogs.  To forget is good, to forgive is better.  Positive energy is a key to success and practicing patience will inevitably be a positive experience.

I would love to hear a few of your positive examples of practicing patience.

New 2 Online Business? You are not alone.

You are in the right place, if you are new to online business.  This blog has been created to help those of you who are not digital tech artists and gurus.  Now, having said that, there is a basic level of computer knowledge required to be successful at building an online presence.  Starting with a few basics, here are a few of the skills needed to become a successful online professional:

You must have access to a computer.

Whether you own it, or not, you must be able to use a digital tool to work in a digital field.   Now, if you do not own a computer, there are many libraries and coffee houses that offer access to computers.  Some are free, while others are paid.  It would be best for your budget to have access to free computers while you are in your initial learning stage.

You must have access to the internet.

There is no point of having an online business, if you cannot get online.  How will you be able to monitor your business, sales, team, and be involved in your online community if you do not have the ability to connect via an online presence.  Again, your local library, school or coffee house can provide access.

The ability to learn Basic Computer Skills

When one thinks of “basic”; the reference is not to the computer language.  Simply, can you turn it on, open a web browser, and send an email?  If you have already mastered those skills, then you have laid the foundation for unlimited opportunity.  If not, no worries.  The New 2 Online Business Beginner Boot camp Videos will share how to do that and more.

5 Ways to Make Money Online

So many ways, and yet, only you can decide how you want to do it!  Utilize your skills and talents to find the perfect one that not only will bring you success, but fulfillment as well.

5. Sell stuff on sites like ebay and Craigs List.
The average person has over $1,500 in junk in their home that they could sell on any given day.  Now that is a lot of junk, but more so, it is a nice chunk of change.  Start looking into ebay auctions, or the fun of listing things for free on Craigs List.

4. Offer a service.
What talents do you possess that can be turned into cash?  Graphic Design?  Web Design?  How about editorial skills?  There are several sites that cater to everything from freelancers to virtual assistants.  Why not bill your time from home?  MLM and Network Marketing are also a way to offer a service.

3. Find a product.
So many products are available through marketplace sites like Clickbank.  Thousands of products are available to sell.  All you need to do is find one that you like and after a simple account set up, it is yours to offer.  Good affiliate marketers are hot commodities.  MLM and Network Marketing are also a way to offer a product.

2. Create a product.
If you have a creative side, you can create a product that you can market online, but also offer through marketplace sites like Clickbank.  Multiple distribution channels are desirable.

1. Write an eBook.
Lastly, if you have skills on the keyboard, the written (and spoken) word are always in need.  Share your thoughts, interview successful and interesting people and then write about it.  Ebooks are a portable and often, very viral.

These are just a few ideas on ways to make money online.  Do you have any ideas to add?  I’d love to read them in the comments.

Your Fave 5 – A Must for Online Business

The saying goes that we are the sum of the five people we connect with most.  If that is true, who are your five connections?  It is important to know who we can trust, confide in, and count on as we begin our journey into the world of Online Business.

While many of your friends will think you are wasting time, it is foolish to think that in our current economy any of the old ways of thinking apply.  Perhaps these individuals may not make your top five list, but they should not be written off.  The key to success in life is our relationships.  Whether they be in person, or online, people will do business with those that they know, like and trust.  More than likely, these naysayers will be your biggest fans when they see you achieve success with your endeavors.  They may also become online customers.

Now, the list may be five, but it can also be more.  You may find that you start with the bottom five of a powerfully inspirational list, so it is important to have a vision and know who is on the list.  Does this mean that you need to kick your best friend to the curb?  Heck no, especially if they are someone that you know, like and trust.  However, if one of the five is a time-sucking vampire that drains you of your energy, then you may want to limit the encounters.  Focus, Focus, Focus is critical to success.

Personally, I think that the Fave 5 is similar to the friends and associates that I would play in a game of tennis – if I played tennis.  They would exceed my skill level slightly and encourage me to get out of my comfort zone, and achieve my next level of success.  Hmmm, I think I may take up tennis, it sounds like fun.

Life is About Being ABLE – Always Be Learning Everything!

When I graduated from High School, I took time off before college. When I graduated from college, I went straight into my new career. No time off, from work…but, plenty of time off from learning. No more pencils, no more books, no more teachers…Oh, I don’t even remember the words.

I thought many times about returning to school to obtain a master degree of some sort, but life always managed to get in the way. I soon learned that “Independent Study” was the way to go. No, I did not return to school for a structured degree, but what I did was make a decision to read more. I quickly learned that I preferred non-fiction to fiction, which served me well in the business world. I strive to read notable fiction books regularly, but I tend to reserve fun fiction for vacation and down time. Most of all, I read 30 minutes every morning when I wake. No, not newspapers, but actual books that inspire me. Then I read the news. Thank you Apple for my iPhone!

Recently I read a quote from Stephen King that said something about if you don’t have time to read, then why bother writing. I suppose I should look up the quote, but you get the point. I believe reading is fundamental to anything in life.

My current interests are focused on Internet Marketing and new methods of human communication.

Okay, I have been found out – I like to surf the web and text about my finds; but my first statement is all about how you market yourself;-) See, I learned something.

Are you ABLE?

Become a General Contractor Today!

Home Building as a Metaphor for Creating an Online Presence

A General Contractor is truly an artist.  He or she is an individual who has the job of being the quintessential project manager.  Just think about the many details involved with building a house.  Wiring, fire inspectors, plumbing, the local planning commission, the architect, and of course, building permits.  These are just a few of the tasks that must be managed.  Not including the skilled labor that must perform these tasks.  On budget and on time is the motto.

If only we truly applied this motto to our online business.  Now for most, having an online business today is similar to having a home based business.  It’s a one person operation.  Funny, that is what it’s like being a General Contractor building one home at a time.  Yes, there are the support staff; spouse, kids and such.  Perhaps an assistant, for those who have the resources, but overall, most start-ups run on a lean budget.  So, with that said, building is really about having a vision.

Building a home requires having a vision and plan as to what the end result will be, and it is the same for creating a business presence online.  Knowing the desired outcome will make it much easier to determine which tools should be used for the job.  Unfortunately, many aspiring online entrepreneurs begin their journey with a glimpse of an idea, a prayer, and perhaps a scribbled cocktail napkin with a few notes.  The approach may be bold, but will it lay the foundation for a stable business?  Probably not.  The concept of beginning with the end in mind will save you time, money, and your sanity.  Home builders use blueprints, and so should Online Entrepreneurs.

Before spending a dime, you want to determine where you want to build the house.  Real Estate Developers work with knowledgeable community leaders and real estate brokers to determine the best neighborhoods.  General Contractors work with real estate agents to locate suitable building sites.  The same network of resources should be established for any Online Professional.  Online Real Estate can be expensive, especially if you don’t know what you are doing.  Thank goodness for the great number of free training articles, videos and webinars that are online to help you decipher the meaning of it all.  Taking the time to read, view, and attend these events will save you money in the long run.  It will also allow you to become acquainted with the well-known players in the community, as well as, your specific industry.

Once the General Contractor has found the perfect lot on which to build, the real skill of resource management comes into play.  It’s now all about the time and money available.  Fortunately, the building plans have already been reviewed, budgets have already been created, and it comes down to simple monthly, weekly and daily scheduling to keep the project on track.  Imagine what our online businesses would look like if we put forth that much effort.  Well, the good news is that we can, and will.  Just by taking the time to read daily, you are investing in your professional skills.  Now, have you reviewed your plan?  Created a budget?  Have you scheduled your work week to incorporate the necessary time to work your plan?

These simple questions will create massive action.  Without knowing which tools are best for the job, many quit before they recoup their initial investment; and their online dreams are erased.  Don’t let that happen to you, or to anyone you know.  Help yourself by supporting others achieve their goals.  Paying it forward is truly the way to fulfillment, just as building a house, is not the same as building a home.  Begin with the end in mind.
